We’ve just had our first spotlight of 2010 and, judging by everyone’s faces, it was another success. Some of the lucky team at Kino had the pleasure of a lovely man named Justin from Fenner Paper showing us his wares.

We didn’t know paper could be so interesting!

Justin’s unique approach, acting as more of a consultant to designers, was refreshing to hear. He also had lots of lovely samples for us all to look through.

We look forward to Spotlight 08.

It’s that time of year again, many heads have been around the table to brainstorm ideas for the annual Kino Christmas chocolate surprise. The brief was chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate and this year’s theme was circular chocolates which was brought to life by our giant snowball design.

All hands were on deck to fill, wrap, package and deliver the balls of fun and it’s fair to say a few choccies were consumed along the way, well it is Christmas after all.

Spotlight 06 – Lee Mawdsley

Kino’s spotlight series goes from strength to strength. Lee Mawdsley is the latest person to talk us through his work – an eclectic mix of stunning images from studio based work, commisioned by clients such as Wallpaper through to location shots of oil rigs in the North sea.

A new campaign for the ECB

We’ve just completed a new campaign for the ECB (England and Wales Cricket Board) in time for the summer Ashes test experience.

We created a poster, postcard and online campaign aimed at targeting and recruiting umpires to the game. We commissioned John Ross to shoot the campaign which features ex England test cricketer Peter Wiley.

The exciting news is we’ve just been told that the online campaign will be appearing on the big screen at Lords in the Ashes test, how’s that!

Hollywood comes to Kino

Leonardo DiCaprio is next door filming his new film Inception, a sci-fi action thriller. We’re yet to spot him but there’s no shortage of film, kit, lorries, and security hanging around.

All of us were treated to an evening of culture at Sadlers Wells on one of our Kino outings.

The performance of Eonnagata was breathtaking, the production brings together three of the world’s foremost creative minds: internationally acclaimed dancer Sylvie Guillem, world-renowned theatre-maker Robert Lepage and award-winning choreographer Russell Maliphant. The elaborate costumes we’re created by legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen, complemented by stunning lighting from Michael Hulls.

A great evening was had by all.

Spotlight on the creative industries

At Kino we’re always interested to see what our counterparts have been upto, so every month we invite people from within our industry to pop in and show us their work over a lunchtime. Its a great way to see new and inspiring work over a sandwich or two. We’ve named the event ‘Spotlight’ and we’ve just finished our fifth talk.

So far we’ve been lucky enough to have seen, Jean Philippe Defaut (a photographer with clients such as New York Times, D&AD and the Design Council), Heart (illustration agency with clients a diverse range of clients from MTV to Penguin) , Simon from Progress Packaging (a cutting edge design driven packaging company), Bruno from Dalton Maag (leading experts in typeface design) and our latest talk was Leona from Getty Images.

We’re already looking forward to Spotlight 06, so watch this space.
